Virtual Site Visit

A Virtual Site Visit is a simulation that coaches your economic development team and community partners on effective virtual site visit practices.  The experience prepares communities to pitch their site and community to attract new business and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

Before the Site Visit

  • We provide the agenda and recommnded best practices for executing a Virtual Site Visit.
  • We ask economic development teams to complete and submit a Site & Community Request For Informatiom (RFI).  Two to three weeks are given to complete the RFI.
  • We input the site into our proprietary GIS site database and utilize that platform to facilitate data analysis and discussion.

Conducting the Virtual Site Visit

A Virtual Site Visit is conducted with web conferencing technology and typically lasts two (2) hours.  Recommended participants include economic developers, utility partners, and logistics representatives, among others. Local board members and other community stakeholders are welcome to join and listen in.  GLS will also record the visit and share the recording with your team for future distribution.

After the Virtual Site Visit has concluded, GLS will provide your economic development team feedback by submitting a brief written report.

Virtual Site Visit Report Includes:

  • Feedback of each stakeholder’s contributions
  • Perceived cohesiveness of the site visit team
  • Gaps in requested information and recommendations for information to prioritize
  • Effectiveness of delivering the business case
  • Virtual Site Visit best practices to consider for future visit opportunities
  • Preliminary feedback on strengths and weaknesses of site

Successful communities have mastered the art of leveraging site visits to convey why theirs is the best community for an investment.
