Knauf Insulation is a German family-owned global manufacturer of fiberglass insulation — delivering thermal and acoustical solutions for residential, commercial, industrial, and OEM applications.
The Need
The GLS team was engaged by this multi-national building and consumer products manufacturer to perform a site selection search in the southwestern United States for a new 600,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution facility. Specifically, the company was searching for a site with proximity to end markets; a highly educated workforce; favorable site and environmental conditions; a reliable source of energy; robust highway and rail infrastructure; and a competitive business climate.
The Solution
Using our internal site database as well as outreach to economic development organizations, GLS identified 19 sites across 3 states. A fatal flaw analysis was conducted for each site, and those properties that passed were prioritized for the client. In September 2021, the company announced the expansion of Knauf Insulation North America with a 600,000 square feet state-of-the-art facility to be constructed at the Industrial Park in McGregor, Texas. The company will create 151 new jobs and invest more than $210 million in capital in this community. The facility is expected to be a major contributor to the Knauf manufacturing capabilities for generations to come and will contribute to the circular economy through the use of recycled materials.
