The Need
Kairos Power's mission is to enable the world's transition to clean energy. As a part of its continued development of its fluoride salt-cooled high temperature nuclear reactor, Kairos Power needed to identify a new location for its research and testing facility.
The Solution
GLS began its site search by looking in nine states. While proximity to their Oakland, California headquarters was a driver, the project was also driven by potential synergies with similar industries, proximity to National Labs, and an educated workforce. At the end of 2019 Albuquerque, NM was selected as the finalist location for Kairos Power's new facility. The Albuquerque site included both greenfield space and a former building, previously a solar panel manufacturing facility. Kairos committed to invest $125 MM in capital investment and 67 high-paying jobs to the Albuquerque community. GLS successfully negotiated over $20 MM in incentives for Kairos that helped offset both capital and ongoing costs.
