The Need
Diageo, the world’s largest producer of spirits, approached GLS in 2013 to assist their internal site search for a new Bulleit Bourbon whiskey distillery in the United States. One of the primary criteria for the project was that it needed to be located along Kentucky’s Bourbon Trail in order to capitalize on the area’s distilling heritage, rural charm, and inviting scenic drives. Diageo contracted GLS to conduct site due diligence services for 3 candidate sites near Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
The Solution
To complete this due diligence effort, the GLS project team utilized a three-phased approach that spanned 9 weeks. GLS consultants kicked off this project with the identification of the primary site requirements and search regions, followed by the finalization of project roles and communication plans with the Diageo team.
During Phase II, the Site Evaluation phase, the GLS team worked to identify and fill any gaps in the available site information through the issuance of RFIs and completion of virtual site tours. After presenting a preliminary report, GLS consultants conducted in-person site visits with the Diageo team. Upon completion of the in-person site visits, the GLS project team used the detailed information gathered to refine their findings and prepare recommendations for the final due diligence report.
