GLS Conducts More Site Analysis for Duke Energy Florida

When it comes to preparing sites for potential investment, Duke Energy, in coordination with its regional subsidiaries, has a game winning economic development strategy. This case study explains how each year Duke Energy subsidiaries select several communities within their respective service territories to participate in its nationally recognized Site Readiness Program. Duke then selects a site selection firm to evaluate each site to determine its best potential for long-term economic sustainability. Since 2005, Duke Energy has evaluated 261 sites throughout its six-state footprint. There have been 42 major projects won resulting in over $7.6 billion in capital investment and more than 9,200 jobs.

For the past two years, Global Location Strategies has been chosen by Duke Energy Florida to conduct this site analysis for a number of communities participating in its Site Readiness program.

According to Marc Hoenstine, Duke Energy Florida’s Director of Economic Development, “It is important that the firm we work with has a portfolio of clients that mirror our primary industry targets. GLS is one of the industry’s leading firms and has the portfolio and the expertise we need.”

In addition to performing an exhaustive review of each site, we also evaluate the preparedness of each community and its stakeholders to meet the requirements of a successful site selection process. This last step may be the primary reason for the success of Duke Energy’s Site Readiness Program, for without stakeholder alignment, a community’s bid to win a highly competitive project can quickly unravel.

Duke Energy Florida recently announced the three communities chosen to participate in its 2019 program, which you can read about here in further detail.

GLS Founding Principal Didi Caldwell said, “Global Location Strategies has enjoyed working with the team at Duke Energy Florida again this year and we are impressed by the professionalism of the three communities selected for this year’s program.”
